When I first opened my massage practice 30 years ago, I remember being afraid that I would not find enough clients to support myself. With all that goes on in the world today, I now realize that every single person is dealing with significant change and pressure all the time. Each person I see in the grocery store or getting gas is carrying something heavy. When I am able to stop and listen to them for a moment, I quickly realize my skill set–our skill set–can help. All massage therapists have something profound to offer: touch, support, quiet, rest, a place to breathe and connect with the inner wisdom that the noise of the world can so easily drown out.

I see our profession as warriors of peace—literal peace and connection. Humans are built to thrive in a community. Many of the clients I see are very isolated, carrying all the pressure on their own, and being told,” That’s just life!” They pull away from everything, trying to minimize their exposure to stress. But they can’t survive alone.

Take a moment and reflect on the last time you faced a significantly stressful life event. Perhaps it involved a major loss, a sudden change in your career, or a shift in your family dynamic. You may have felt stuck as you tried to pick up the pieces so precious to you as the rest of the world kept moving forward. Despite the pressure, you still had to show up as a functional contributor at work or school, feed yourself and maybe a family, pushing through as best you could. You may feel that way right now.

Twenty years into my career, I studied somatic therapy and added it to my skill set. It’s a fantastic tool you can use to guide your clients inward and help them better understand how their systems metabolize significant events. You can give them skills to defuse the pressures that tend to push us or separate us from the peace that’s waiting within us all the time. Once they can see and use the pressure valve, they can reconnect with their best selves, and their Divine Purpose.

I’ve been teaching these skills to therapists and clients over the past decade and am now excited to offer them to you via the Florida School of Massage. I know you will be relieved to lessen your heavy lifting and help your clients to help themselves.

Sign up for my online introductory CEU to learn more. I also offer in-person training which counts toward your hours. These somatic modalities open a door of ease, whether you are a seasoned professional or just beginning your career. This class will positively impact you and your clients. No more wrestling with the pressures your clients carry. Be their champion, their warrior, to find peace and purpose.

See you there!
