I’m still smiling broadly from teaching and attending the 5th International Fascia Congress in Berlin this past November. As quoted from their website: “The International Fascia Research Congress (FRC) was created by a multidisciplinary committee of basic science researchers and practicing health care professionals whose respective fields share a common focus and interest in the human body’s soft connective tissue matrix.” The Congress did not disappoint.
Granted, my lens is scarring and lymphatics. As I have searched for research and information to explain tissue reaction to protocol, reaching out to other disciplines has been crucial. My giddiness at attending lectures from Dr. Melody Swartz, lymphatic researcher; Dr. Robert Schleip, fascial researcher; Dr. Carla Stecco and her work on new insights in understanding matrix biology of fascial tissues continues to excite me about the future of manual therapy.
Like a flashing neon sign, inflammation in the body continues to show up in fascial and lymphatic research as the beginning of the process of pain and disease. I encourage you to explore the research on your own. A good place to start is this article: Preview of 5th International Fascia Congress.
The 6th International Fascia Congress will be in Montreal in 2021. I hope to see you there!
