Having a plan can really help with pursuing your professional development. See what is available and interests you, and don’t wait to the last minute to sign up. Often the number of slots is limited and you do not want to get shut out of what interests you because you procrastinated. Also notice if the class you want offers an early registration discount (I offer these with classes I teach), this can present some savings for you.

So enough about workshops; what about personal renewal? When I read the greeting about renewal it got me thinking about New Year’s resolutions. This comes up often with the changing of the year and it usually takes me a bit of thinking about what is my work for the upcoming year. What would I like to change or begin in 2017?

I notice that I often have reactions to things. It often comes quickly and is a bit of a knee jerk type of thing. This is often not the best response to a situation, especially when I know it is usually an old pattern repeating itself and keeping me from being my best. This year one of my resolutions to renew myself is to slow myself down in response to situations. In other words, I want to respond rather than react to things. I want to be more conscious in my behavior and less reflexive. I also want to be more social. I often spend time by myself, I am a bit of an introvert. While this is not a bad thing in and of itself, it can result in feeling isolated and lonely. I will be reaching out, participating with others and joining in more. These are two my intentions for 2017. Just like in professional development, personal progress requires a plan and follow-through. If I wait for it to just happen, well, often it doesn’t. I am happy to say I am already acting on these resolutions.

With all this being said, I hope you have a great New Year and renewal year. May everyone find what they need, and accomplish their goals both personal and professional. May this be a wonderful, stimulating and growing year for all!
