Workshop Description:

We will use the gentle movement sequences of the Feldenkrais Method® in order to learn to relax the mouth, jaw, and related structures.  Rather than looking at this area as isolated from the rest of the body, we will discover how it is influenced by other structures such as the pelvis, spine, tongue and throat. We will practice exploratory exercises which not only illuminate these relationships, but also help the participant to relax hypertonic muscles, increase range of motion, and decrease pain in these areas.

These pleasurable and relaxing exercises will be accompanied by lecture/discussion, in language understandable by lay people, to clarify the relevant anatomy and kinesiology, as well as the pertinent philosophy and strategies of the Feldenkrais Method®.

Be prepared to lie on the floor to do movement explorations.   Participants should be able to lie on the floor and stand up with little or no help.

This qualifies for six hands-on continuing education hours, Florida and NCBTMB.  Handouts will be provided, and certificates will be awarded.

No massage technique is practiced: focus in on self-care, anatomy, and kinesiology. There will be a demonstration of hands-on technique based on the principles taught.  This qualifies for 6 “hands-on” CE units for Florida and NCBTMB. There is no prerequisite.

Exercises will be done on a carpeted floor; students may wish to bring a mat or towel, and wear comfortable clothes for movement.  Students should be able to lie on the floor and come to standing with little or no assistance.  There will be an hour for lunch starting at approximately 12:30.

This class is open to and appropriate for the general public, you may invite friends and clients who wish to learn self-care.
