SUMMARY:Explorations in Movement Based Bodywork: Understanding Core Strength
DESCRIPTION:Core strengthening has become popular in sports and physical therapy\, and many people blame all low back pain on lack of core strength. And indeed\, many people with low back pain improve when the core is strengthened. \nBut does it work? Yes\, except when it doesn’t And when it does work\, perhaps it doesn’t always work for the reasons you think. And when it doesn’t work\, sometimes problems arise from hypertonicity in the psoas\, co-contraction of the flexors and extensors\, and pelvic floor issues. \nThis knowledge is important for the massage therapist\, both for knowledge of treating injuries\, and for client education for clients who have been misinformed or are confused.  \nGoals for this class include: \n\nExamining the evidence for core strengthening; Does it really work?\nLearning alternate reasons why it may work.\nUnderstanding the problems that may arise when this approach is used poorly or inappropriately.\nLearning painless hands-on treatment for psoas issues and co-contraction.\nPracticing alternative methods of core strengthening\, based on the Feldenkrais Method of Movement Education©\, and Continuum of Emilie Conrad. These methods provide a multidirectional and more holistic approach to strengthening\, and hands-on bodywork methods can be based on these strategies.\n\nThis class will be experiential\, and will include floor exercise\, lecture\, discussion\, and hands-on practice. This qualifies for 6 hands-on CE units NCBTMB. There is no prerequisite. \nExercises will be done on a carpeted floor; students may wish to bring a mat or towel\, and wear comfortable clothes for movement. Students should be able to lie on the floor and come to standing with little or no assistance. Bring sheets; no lotion is required. \nClass starts at 10 AM and ends at 5 PM. SUMMARY:Thai Foot Reflexology
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Ariela Grodner \nTime: 9AM-6PM\n Workshop Price: $300 ($250 if registered before June 28th)\n Location: Florida School of Massage\n CE Hours: 18 Florida and National \nTo Register: Contact Ariela at 813-417-6745 or arielagrodner@yahoo.com \nIn this workshop students will learn to give an hour-long session on the feet alone\, while still affecting the whole body through aware stimulation of the sen lines and marma points. Utilizing both dry and wet massage (with and without oil) as well as a Thai foot stick\, to glide the lines and press the points with greater accuracy and precision then the hands alone could provide.  The style we will be exploring is a method derived from Shivaga Komarpaj of the Chiang Mai school of Thai Massage\, and is for everyone\, therapists and lay people alike. This is a powerful healing tool that can be implemented on it’s own\, or as an addition to the full body massage. No prior massage experience is necessary to be educated in this methodology. \nWhat to bring \nPlease bring a mat\, a vegetarian potluck dish for lunch\, trinkets & tools of empowerment to decorate our class altar\, and a willingness to learn. We will work on mats on the floor or Massage Tables. You can pick what you prefer.  We can provide a massage table if you prefer to work on one.
