In this seminar, we will learn a variety of safe, gentle movements which may be taught to clients in order to enhance the health-promoting benefits of massage. Benefits include relaxation, stress management, relief of pain, and improved circulation and coordination. Course material comes from a variety of sources, including Feldenkrais Method, yoga, Meir Schneider (The Handbook of Self Healing), and others. The therapist will also find the course material to be useful for self-care and to prevent burnout.
These are not physical therapy stretch and strengthen techniques, and should no be misconstrued as a substitute for physical therapy. Teaching these techniques to clients can transform a massage session from a passive experience to a more empowering experience for the client, as the client learns increased body awareness and self-care.
