Movement Based Bodywork: Foundations of Breathwork

Description:

This workshop is open to anyone, and is of special interest to athletes, people with health concerns, health-care workers, and anyone who would like to be less stressed and more energetic. Learning in painless, through fascinating investigations of movement. The class includes:

• Understanding of anatomy and physiology of breathing mechanism, including rib motion and role of primary and secondary respiratory muscles.
• Role of the thoracic inlet, respiratory diaphragm, and pelvic diaphragm in breathing.
• Effects of full vs. restricted breathing in cervical, thoracic, shoulder, and lumbar pain as well as general health. 
• How to affect the autonomic nervous system and decrease stress using breathing..
• Relationship of lumbar movement to rib and respiratory diaphragm movement.
• Sensory-Motor movement explorations to improve breathing and create a kinesthetic sense of the anatomy, which complements the intellectual knowledge of anatomy. 

We will use the gentle movement explorations of the Feldenkrais Method© to explore and enhance our own breathing.  We will discuss the anatomy of breath and its relationship to relaxation and stress management.  Demonstrations of how to integrate this knowledge into hands-on work will be done,

This class is open to and appropriate for the general public, so you may bring clients who wish to learn self-care.
